Ayer murió Joe Arroyo uno de los grandes genios de la música salsa en Colombia y el mundo. Curiosamente en este país se transmite en la actualidad la telenovela  biográfica que lleva su nombre “El JOE La Leyenda ”  “Joe a Legend”  En hora buena y justo para la celebración en vida de quién hizo de cada uno de sus canciones un éxito total.

Para los que tuvimos la oportunidad de verlo en conciertos, bailar o crecer con su música Joe Arroyo es sin duda el mejor de todos los artistas musicales que ha tenido Colombia.  En honor al Joe aquí van algunos de los videos de sus canciones. Todas sus canciones fueron un éxito, pero estas son tal vez las que este autor recuerda más.

En sus canciones Joe Arroyo le cantó a la raza negra, a Dios y a la vida.

Recordándolo algunos de sus más cercanos amigos dijeron:

“ Joe no tocaba ningún instrumento” pero tenía la habilidad de componer y hacer y lograr que su orquesta entendiera lo que el pensaba y quería

Otros recordaron como su voz parecía  a la vocalización de un caballo. Si de un caballo.

Casi todos recordaron su gran alegría y su capacidad de llevar alegría a su lugar de trabajo, a la familia y al escenario.

El Joe nació en Cartagena, en un barrio popular donde desde muy temprana edad  mostró su deseo por ser una estrella de la canción.
Se inició profesionalmente a la edad de 17 años cuando se unió a la banda de Fruko y sus Tesos. En 1981 el Joe lanzó su propia orquesta la verdad.

Church Name: St. Charles Borromeo, designed in 1868 by renowned Irish-American architect Patrick Charles Keeley.

Patron Saint Facts: (1538-1584) Archbishop of Milan and a Cardinal. He was one of the drafters of the first Catechism of the Catholic Church, was a leader of the Catholic Reformation, and was an innovator of religious education, especially for children – establishing what is commonly now known as “Sunday School”.

Fue uno de los redactores del Primer Catesismo de la iglesia católica, y fue un innovador de la educación religiosa, especialmente la relacionada con los niños, ya que fué el creador de lo que se conoce comúnmente como “ Escuela del Domingo”

Architecture: The church is a brick structure in the Neo-Gothic with a brick tower and metal steeple in the center of the front façade. The interior space has seven tall and slender stained glass windows with pointed arches. The choir space is designed with Gothic ornamentation. It holds an altar, a  free-standing chancel and a low choir screen of white marble, dark wood screens with back-lit stained glass panels and numerous sculptures, at the other end of the church.

The entrance above is dominated by the organ. Last year it celebrated the 130th Anniversary of J.H. & C.S. Odell Opus 178, which was installed at St. Charles in 1880.

Arquitectura:  La iglesia es una estructura de ladrillo de estilo Neo Gótico, con una torre campanario de ladrillo y metal en el centro de la fachada frontal. El espacio interior cuenta de siete ventanas altas y vitrales de arcos apuntados. El espacio del coro está diseñado con la ornamentación gótica. Ahí se encuentra el altar, el antealtar y un muro bajo del coro en mármol blanco y  pantallas en madera iluminados en el fondo con paneles de vitrales y numerosas esculturas.  La parte superior de la entrada esta dominada por el órgano, of J.H. & C.S. Odell Opus 178, que fue instalado en la iglesia en 1880.

Why we love this church: We love Father Edward Doran daily homilies, full of grace, and aligned with the new realities. He is the only person I know that have met Carl Jung. He frequently made reference to Jung and many other contemporary philosophers in a language easy to understand to any one.

 

¿Porqué nos gusta esta iglesia? : Nos encantan las homilías diarias del Padre Father Edward Doran, llenas de gracia y alineadas con las realidades de nuestro tiempo. El es la única persona que conozco que haya conocido a Carl Jung. Constantemente el padre hace referencia a él y a otros filósofos contemporáneos en un lenguaje fácil de comprender para cualquier persona.

Luckily  he decided to take a nap at the Kmart Store located at Penn Station?  Let's all take a nap! But not at Kmart!

Somos en realidad una ciudad carente de sueño? Claro que sí y todos necesitamos tomarnos una siesta de vez en cuando. Quién sabe por cuanto tiempo éste hombre caminó por la ciudad con insomnio total? Afortunadamente decidió tomarse una siestita en el almacén de Kmart de la Estación de Penn Station en Nueva York

Let me point it out:  I use public transportation, I recycle, I always make sure to turn off the lights, don't eat fast food or any TV menus. Still I have to improve my Ecological Footprint!

Déjenme anotar que uso transporte público, reciclo, apago las luces, no como enlatados o comida chatarra.

Now is time to take some year long resolutions to reduce my  footprint.

 I will do my best to buy " certified organic food" and  to reduce the use of the air condition during the summer.

2004

• WWF Australia begins to look at new ways to take climate change mainstream after being confronted with serious scientific data
• WWF Australia meets with advertising agency, Leo Burnett Sydney to discuss ideas for engaging Australians on the issue of climate change

2005

• A campaign based on hope not fear, and the idea that everyone can take personal responsibility for the future of the planet we live on, is envisioned
• WWF Australia and Leo Burnett Sydney start developing the concept of a large scale switch off. The project has the working title, "The Big Flick"

2006

• Leo Burnett is tasked with the challenge of coming up with a campaign name that represents more than simply flicking off lights –Earth Hour is born. The Earth Hour name allows the campaign to broaden the focus from “lights out” to sustainability
• WWF Australia and Leo Burnett Sydney take the concept of Earth Hour to Fairfax Media asking Fairfax to back the event – they agree
• Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP agrees to support
• Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth movie is released bringing worldwide attention to the issue of climate change
• The Stern Report, which discusses the effects of climate change and global warming on the world economy, is released in October. • The inaugural Earth Hour is held in Sydney Australia 7.30pm - 8.30pm, 2.2 million Sydneysiders and 2,100 businesses participate
• The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) releases a report highlighting the risks of rising temperatures, further highlighting the need for urgent solutions

April 2007

• Plans are developed to make Earth Hour a national event in Australia, but international interest is high and cities began signing up to the next Earth Hour campaign

29 March 2008

• Earth Hour is held in 371 cities and towns in more than 35 countries globally at 8pm-9pm. A highly conservative estimate concludes that 50 million people participate. This number could have been as high as 100 million people

28 March 2009

• Earth Hour held on Saturday March 28 at 8.30pm-9.30pm. Hundreds of millions of people in more than 4,000 cities and towns across 88 countries switched off their lights for one hour, creating a visual mandate for action on climate change effectively kick-starting the world’s first global vote.

July 2009

• Earth Hour's Vote Earth campaign releases the Vote Earth symbol calling on citizens of the world to show their vote for Earth over Global Warming.

November 2009

• Earth Hour’s Vote Earth launches The People’s Orb, a shimmering silver sphere encasing a 350 gigabyte hard drive with video, images and documents representing the hundreds of millions of people who voted Earth to call for action on climate change. A tangible representation of the voice of the world’s people, The People’s Orb relays from Sydney to Copenhagen in the care of a variety of custodians ranging from former heads of state to iconic rock stars.

December 2009

• Global awareness of climate change soars to unprecedented levels during an historic meeting of 192 nations at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark. Vote Earth campaign culminates on 16th December with Earth Hour Copenhagen. The People’s Orb, is entrusted to UN Chef de Cabinet, Vijay Nambiar to be presented to world leaders. The People’s Orb takes centre stage in the plenary on the final day of the conference alongside UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon, in front of President of the United States, Barack Obama, Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, COP President and Climate Minister Connie Hedegaard and over 100 heads of state.

• Earth Hour is held on Saturday March 27 at 8.30pm-9.30pm and succeeds in being a global call to action to stand up, to take responsibility, and lead the global journey to a sustainable future. A record 128 countries and territories take part and iconic buildings and landmarks from Asia Pacific to Europe and Africa to the Americas stand in darkness.

Video: An Encuentro with Annabella Gonzales Dance Theater

En Encuentros, Encounters, Rencontres el espectáculo de danza que Annabella Gonzales Dance Theater, pondrá en escena  el 18 y el 19 de marzo para gozo de los que vivimos en Nueva York, el espectador podrá asistir con la certeza que terminado el show se sentirá vigorizado por el glamour artístico, el humor, el colorido y la cadencia musical que se despliegaen en  cada uno de los actos de esta obra musical.

 En un mundo donde los psiquiatras parecen ser el camino al encuentro con si mismo, Encounters, Encuentros, Rencontres de Annabella Gonzalez Dance Theater, lo llevarán a encontrase con un insólito mundo de colores, historias cotidianas que se narran con doble sentidos, pensamientos nunca dichos, cuerpos increíblemente ratificantes, emociones que rayan con lo incorrectamente político pero que danzan al ritmo de un Mozart y un Schubert que exploran el alma latina.

Annabella Gonzalez Dance Theater se sale de cualquiera de los estereotipos de la danza moderna, contemporánea o latina. Es sencillamente un multiculturalismo  auténtico de quien sabe ser una persona multicultural.

En efecto,  Annabella Gonzales es de origen mexicano, y de madre francesa. Es una artista criada con una visión global del mundo y hecha empresaria de las bellas artes en Nueva York, donde desde hace 35 años viene creando obras universales y enseñando arte a los niños y adolescentes de la ciudad.
